Year 2: Promoting private sector engagement in the VPA

CED is partnering with five selected business associations, namely: Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI),Binh Duong Furniture Association (BIFA), Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA), Forest Production Association of Binh Dinh (FPA), and Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association (VIFORES) to implement a 18-month project to promote private sector’s engagement in VPA’s implementation.There are three main outputs/objectives for this project:
  • Output 1) Increase business access to information on legality requirements according to Vietnamese laws and regulation on TL
  • Output 2) Strengthening public – private dialogues in advancing VPA process.
  • Output 3) Monitoring, evaluation and visibility framework developed

 

There are various activities proposed under each output in order to achieve the overall objective. Project activities include: project launching and participatory planning meeting; revision of training agenda and materials for businesses; training for SMEs in the North, Central and Southern Areas; regional and national dialogues; communication and outreach; and monitoring, courtesy visits with the European Union Delegation and FAO; evaluation of project outputs; and evaluation of project events.

Year 1: Capacity building of business associations and media to engage in FLEGT to provide information on FLEGT and related issues

The EU-FAO Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Program promotes the implementation of the FLEGT Action Plan by improving forest governance, providing technical assistance, and building capacity through funding projects in eligible countries. In pursuit of these objectives, the EU FAO FLEGT Program has agreed to support the CED proposed project entitled “Capacity building of business associations and media to engage in FLEGT to provide information on FLEGT and related issues”.  The project aims at i) Promoting understanding of local media on the FLEGT Volunteer Partnership Agreement (VPA) negotiation process and VPA implementation and ii) Supporting the availability of FLEGT related information to promote informed engagement of the business sector. CED will partner with Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Vietnam Television (VTV) to implement this project. Project activities include: Conduct needs assessment among businesses and related stakeholders; a training workshop for media and related organizations; Development, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive 9-month media and public outreach plan on FLEGT issues; Development and dissemination of information packages for SMEs through VCCI network, meetings, and events (both print and media); Development of a website application on FLEGT and VPA and related issues; Final evaluation and a meeting with key stakeholders.
